Clinical Corner
🥼Use the clinical corner as your secret weapon to impress your colleagues and patients!
🤔 Do you ever feel like you're living out your wildest dreams in your sleep? Well, for some people, those dreams become a reality - and not in a good way.
REM sleep behavior disorder is a parasomnia that causes individuals to act out their dreams, often resulting in injury to themselves or their sleeping partners.😨 But fear not - the American Academy of Sleep Medicine has just released an updated clinical practice guideline to help clinicians manage this disorder and keep those dreamers safe.
The guideline recommends specific medications, such as clonazepam and immediate-release melatonin, to help manage REM sleep behavior disorder in adults. But it's not just about popping pills - the guideline also emphasizes the importance of creating a safe sleeping environment, including removing sharp objects and placing soft surfaces around the bed in case of sudden falls.
So next time you or a loved one is acting out their dreams, don't just brush it off as sleepwalking - it could be a sign of REM sleep behavior disorder. And with the help of this new guideline, clinicians can provide the best care possible to keep those dreamers from living out their nightmares.
Are you looking to catch some more Zzz's in this year? Us too. Luckily, we've got the inside scoop on how to get the best night's sleep, straight from sleep expert Jean Tsai, MD, PhD.
While many of us turn to background noise - like a white noise machine or a fan - to help us snooze, Dr. Tsai cautions that there are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to using sound as a sleep aid. While it can be helpful to relax your brain and mask other distracting noises, Dr. Tsai recommends limiting the use of background noise to the first half-hour of sleep or using a timer to turn it off during the night.
But if you are going to use background noise, what kind should you use? There are a variety of "colors" of noise to choose from, including white, brown, and pink. While most studies have focused on white noise, some research suggests that pink noise - which boosts lower frequencies - may be the most beneficial for sleep.
Of course, there are other basics to keep in mind for a good night's sleep, including sticking to a consistent sleep schedule and winding down before bed. So, whether you’re team white noise or team silence, here's to catching some sweet, sweet Zzz's in 2023.😴
3/ Dr. Mark Nation Inspires His Fellow Prosthodontists to Look Past the Teeth and More at the Airway.
Are you tired of waking up with a sore jaw and a broken tooth? Well, in this podcast, we've got the answers to your teeth-breaking-down woes!
Host Elvis interviews a prosthodontist about the two main causes of teeth breaking down: biological and functional factors.
☣️Biologic factors include things like bacteria, viruses, and fungi attacking teeth. And if you thought only people who don't brush their teeth get these issues, think again! With a growing aging population on multiple medications, dry mouth is becoming increasingly prevalent and wreaking havoc on teeth.
🏃♂️Functional factors are the result of blunt force trauma from patients who grind or clench their teeth. But don't despair; the podcast delves into how dentists can work with sleep medicine specialists and pulmonologists to help patients with sleep disturbances, which can often be the root cause of teeth grinding. So tune in and learn how to take care of your teeth and get a better night's sleep!

Last week we discussed the 4 types of attraction in the awareness stage of a sales funnel.
Let’s pretend you listened… [In case you didn’t😉]
Since you did listen last week… everyone knows about you now! Congrats👍
Now, what do you do?
Step 2: Interest🛝
Let's talk about the "interest stage" of the sales funnel. This is the point where prospective patients are doing their research and evaluating their options. They know that your solution is not the only one on the market, so they're searching for information about you, your products, and your competitors.
To make sure you catch their attention, it's important to provide information in a well-organized and easy-to-digest manner. Remember, different people have different research styles - some may read reviews, others may watch videos or check out your social media.
The key to this stage is to establish a meaningful relationship with your leads. You want to be their trusted resource today and for all their future needs, so pay close attention to your brand and what it communicates.
Consistency is important - make sure your content is delivered on a schedule your prospects expect.
✅ Provide clear and detailed information about your products, processes, and guidelines. This will help build trust and engage your audience.
Quality > Quanity but Quality + Quanity wins over Quality
Even if you're not the ideal solution for everyone, clear content and engaging branding will help people remember your name and refer others to your business. And to keep your brand at the forefront of their minds, consider retargeting campaigns with Facebook or Google Ads or offering lead magnets for email sign-ups.
👍 With these tips, you'll be on your way to building a meaningful relationship with your prospective patients or doctors in no time!
