Clinical Corner

🥼Use the clinical corner as your secret weapon to impress your colleagues and patients!

Are you familiar with the AGGA dental device?🤨

This expanding upper jaw appliance claims to improve breathing, posture, and facial appearance. However, recent lawsuits suggest that it could also cause significant harm to patients' teeth instead.

😬 Several users have allegedly reported pain, gum recession, and even tooth loss as a result of using the AGGA. While it's important to offer patients a range of treatment options, it's crucial to inform them of the potential risks associated with any treatment you recommend.

💡 Remember, informed patients make better decisions about their health. By staying informed and transparent, you can help your patients achieve optimal dental health and sleep quality.

Expansive orthodontics is the future of treating mild to moderate sleep apnea. Until there are clinical trials proving concepts like this… be careful!

Now let’s talk about how ortho is affecting the airway through proven methods.👇

We all know that getting a good night's sleep is important, but did you know that the alignment of your teeth could be affecting your breathing? A recent retrospective study looked at the changes in the upper airway and tongue position in patients treated with clear aligners.

The study found that patients with airway constriction experienced a significant increase in airway volume during treatment, while the surface of the most constricted cross-section of the airway did not change. So, you may not get wider, but you'll definitely get more breathing room.

If you've been feeling like your tongue is a bit of a rebel, the study also found that the final position was different from the initial position in 62.2% of cases.

Overall, this study suggests that clear aligners can not only improve the alignment of your teeth but also provide some much-needed breathing space. So, get ready to breathe easy and smile big with clear aligners.

There is a large opportunity here for clear aligners to take a step into the direction of sleep. We know that where the teeth sit will affect the airway, so it stands to reason that Orthodontists need to screen their patients for OSA before and after treatment.

We have some interesting news about using RPE’s (fixed palatal expansion) in adults.

While the study shows the successful orthodontic effect, I am more interested in the effect of the airway and the postural changes in the patient by remodeling the dento-alveolar areas. This treatment took 1 year and 10 months to create these changes.

Comparison of X-Rays Images and cephalometric tracing before and after treatment.

While this is a promising treatment, it doesn’t mean that every patient is a good patient for this treatment. However, expansive orthodontics is shown to be the front-runner in long-term airway changes.

Remember, each person's teeth are different, so it's important to find the right treatment. There are many ways to learn more about treating airway, like going to conferences or webinars, or following More Than Teeth. We'll keep you updated on the latest news! 😊

Business of Sleep

📈Better businesses = more lives saved!

👋Hey there dental sleep professionals, are you ready to learn how to drive customer desire in your sales funnel? Let's dive into the third stage of the sales funnel: desire.

💭At this point in the funnel, your potential customers have become interested in your product or service. They've learned about the benefits of dental sleep treatments and are considering taking action. But how can you take that interest and turn it into a burning desire to work with you?

🔥The key to creating desire lies in tapping into your customers' emotions. People make decisions based on how they feel, not just on logic. When you can connect with your customers on an emotional level, you can create a strong desire to work with you.

🎭One way to do this is through storytelling. Share success stories of other patients who have used your services to improve their sleep quality and overall health. Use relatable language and vivid imagery to paint a picture of what life could be like for your potential customers after working with you.

💻Another effective strategy is to use social proof. Show off positive reviews and testimonials from satisfied patients. When people see that others have had a positive experience with your services, they'll be more likely to desire that same experience for themselves.

📈You can also create a sense of scarcity or urgency. Offer limited-time promotions or highlight the unique aspects of your services that make them stand out from the competition. When people feel like they might miss out on something special, their desire to act increases.

🤝Finally, make sure that you're building trust with your potential customers. Show that you understand their concerns and are there to help them. By creating a sense of trust and empathy, you can strengthen the desire for your services.

👋So there you have it, More Than Teeth fam. By tapping into emotions, sharing success stories, providing social proof, creating a sense of urgency, and building trust, you can drive customer desire and move them further down the sales funnel. Keep these strategies in mind as you work to grow your business and help more patients achieve optimal sleep health.

We are big fans of the Dental Rift Podcast here at More Than Teeth. Gary and Tanner break down the hard topic of creating mission statements around having the patient, doctor, or team as the first priority. All can be noble goals and I think they have great insight to how to think about that difficult question.
